Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) delivers high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with acute or chronic health conditions. Practicing within their licensed scope, the NP performs comprehensive assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, initiates treatment plans, and manages patient care in collaboration with physicians. This role promotes patient wellness, coordinates referrals, and ensures compliance with clinical standards and organizational policies. 

Essential Functions

  • Conducts patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments. 
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures. 
  • Provides preventative healthcare services, immunizations, and health screenings. 
  • Prescribes medications and formulates treatment plans under applicable prescriptive authority. 
  • Refers patients to specialists and community resources as needed. 
  • Documents all care in the electronic medical record accurately and timely. 
  • Educates patients and families about health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies. 
  • Promotes informed decision-making and respects patient autonomy and cultural preferences. 
  • Maintains responsibility for care throughout the course of treatment, including discharge planning. 
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and participates in performance improvement initiatives. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic abilities 
  • Effective communication and patient education skills 
  • Knowledge of primary care and/or specialty medicine depending on setting 
  • Proficiency in EHR documentation and patient management systems 
  • Ability to function independently in high-pressure environments 
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient safety 
  • Frequent walking, standing, and patient interaction 
  • Occasional lifting/carrying of patients or equipment (up to 25–50 lbs) 
  • Requires visual and auditory acuity for assessments and communication 
  • Clinic or hospital setting 
  • Exposure to biohazards, infectious disease, and medical equipment 
  • Occasional exposure to chemical agents, latex, and medical waste

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Required) 
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (Required) 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice (Required) 
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification (Required) 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required) 
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Required within 30 days of hire) 

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (required)
