Job Summary

The Outpatient Procedures Scheduler is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of procedures across various outpatient departments, including Endoscopy, Pain Management, Hyperbaric Unit, Rehabilitation, and Radiology. Under the supervision of the Controller or Business Office Manager, this role ensures accurate registration, insurance verification, and timely communication with patients and staff to support the effective operation of outpatient services.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates scheduling and intake of outpatient and inpatient procedures
  • Performs clerical functions for all outpatient departments, including admissions and discharges
  • Answers telephones and intercoms, relays messages appropriately
  • Assists patients and visitors, ensuring a professional and welcoming environment
  • Prepares monthly reports and maintains departmental records
  • Copies and files patient insurance and identification documents
  • Assists physicians and nursing staff with documentation needs
  • Verifies insurance information in compliance with HIPAA standards
  • Directs patients to appropriate departments and services
  • Orders and organizes office supplies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and HIPAA guidelines

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required

Licenses/Certifications

  • None required

Experience

  • One to two years of experience in a hospital outpatient setting preferred
  • Experience with patient scheduling and insurance verification is desirable
