Job Summary

The Senior Director of Network Services leads the strategy, architecture, engineering, and delivery of enterprise network services across the organization's hospital and corporate locations. The Senior Director establishes the technical vision and standards for wide area, local area, wireless, and software-defined networks; directs network segmentation and connectivity for clinical and administrative systems; and ensures network services are secure, resilient, scalable, and reliable. This role leads network transformation initiatives and partners with clinical, security, infrastructure, and facility leaders to support enterprise operations.

Essential Functions

  • Defines and owns the enterprise network architecture strategy for wide area, local area, wireless, software-defined, and network security segmentation technologies.
  • Leads the enterprise software-defined wide area network transformation, including underlay and overlay design, site sequencing, testing, migration, and deployment across the hospital portfolio.
  • Designs and enforces network segmentation and virtual local area network standards that protect sensitive information and support HIPAA, HITECH, and internal security requirements.
  • Partners with clinical technology and application teams to prioritize network performance and quality of service for electronic health records, unified communications, and other mission-critical systems.
  • Develops and maintains network standards, reference architectures, technical documentation, and lifecycle plans for routing, switching, wireless, and software-defined network platforms.
  • Establishes network monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices for enterprise network services.
  • Manages network circuit, platform, equipment, and service-provider relationships; negotiates contracts and service-level agreements and directs escalations.
  • Builds and leads the network engineering and operations team; establishes accountabilities and provides technical direction, coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Collaborates with cybersecurity, infrastructure, clinical technology, application, and facility teams to align network services with operational and security priorities.
  • Develops capital and operating budgets, investment roadmaps, and business cases for network infrastructure and service improvements.
  • Presents network strategy, performance, risks, investment needs, and transformation progress to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Directs network due diligence, transition planning, and technical onboarding for acquisitions and newly affiliated facilities.
  • Maintains compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and organizational security policies across network environments.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Expert knowledge of enterprise network architecture and engineering, including wide area, local area, wireless, routing, switching, and software-defined network technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of network segmentation, virtual local area networks, access controls, and secure connectivity in distributed environments.
  • Knowledge of quality-of-service design and network dependencies for electronic health records, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, unified communications, and other critical applications.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring, capacity management, incident response, disaster recovery, business continuity, and service reliability practices.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and security requirements applicable to healthcare networks and protected health information.
  • Ability to develop network standards, reference architectures, lifecycle plans, transformation roadmaps, budgets, and business cases.
  • Ability to evaluate complex technical alternatives and translate network decisions, risks, costs, and performance implications for executive and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to lead and develop network engineering and operations professionals across a geographically dispersed organization.
  • Ability to manage telecommunications carriers, technology vendors, contracts, service-level agreements, escalations, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, cybersecurity, infrastructure, application, and facility stakeholders during planning, implementation, and service restoration.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Preferred) Or
  • Other: An equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience in lieu of the degree requirement (May be Considered)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Other: Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or relevant software-defined wide area network vendor certification Upon Hire (Preferred)

Experience

  • 7-9 years progressive experience in enterprise network architecture and engineering, including experience in a leadership capacity (Required)
  • Prior Experience hands-on experience with software-defined wide area network technologies, enterprise routing and switching, wireless networks, and network segmentation (Required)
  • Prior Experience designing and operating networks in a complex, multi-site, distributed organization (Required)
  • Prior Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, unified communications, and other network-dependent enterprise applications (Required)
  • Prior Experience managing network vendors, telecommunications carriers, contracts, service-level agreements, and service providers (Required)
  • Prior Experience in healthcare or another highly regulated, multi-location organization (Preferred)
  • Prior Experience supporting electronic health record platforms and collaborating with cybersecurity teams on network security, incident response, or threat detection (Preferred)
  • Prior Experience with network due diligence and integration associated with mergers and acquisitions (Preferred)
