Job Summary

The Physician Revenue Cycle Director leads, monitors, and optimizes the performance of the physician revenue cycle. This role is responsible for auditing, strategizing, and maintaining accountability across all aspects of accounts receivable, denial management, payer communications, and staff operations. The Director ensures effective collaboration among departments and supports ongoing compliance with payer policies, reimbursement regulations, and performance metrics.

Essential Functions

  • Directs revenue cycle strategy including billing, charge capture, coding, denial management, and cash reconciliation
  • Oversees staff performance, training, and adherence to departmental and organizational policies
  • Initiates and standardizes policies and procedures that enhance compliance and operational efficiency
  • Conducts data analysis and reporting to identify trends, assess performance, and guide improvement initiatives
  • Leads monthly market and payer meetings and communicates updates across departments
  • Coordinates with internal teams such as IT, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Patient Access, and HIM
  • Supports internal and external audits including OIG, RAC, MAC, Medicaid, and payer audits
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of all privileged and/or proprietary information
  • Oversees projects and pilot programs related to revenue cycle
  • Takes ownership of assignments and ensures timely completion of departmental goals

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of physician billing structures, payer rules, and reimbursement methodologies
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field required
  • Equivalent work experience (minimum 5+ years) in a leadership role (Manager or above) may be considered

Licenses/Certifications

  • None Required

Experience

  • 5+ years physician revenue cycle operations, including physician billing, charge master, DRG, ICD-10, and CPT coding (Required)
  • 5+ years experience with Rural Health Clinic (RHC) and Provider-Based Billing (PBB) (Preferred)
