Job Summary

The Patient Access Coordinator Level 1 is responsible for performing basic receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with patient access to hospital services. This role involves obtaining demographic and financial information, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and providing exceptional customer service to patients and visitors.

Essential Functions

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Obtain accurate demographic, billing, and clinical information and enter it into the registration system.
  • Verify insurance benefits and explain coverage information to patients.
  • Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible amounts as applicable.
  • Distribute and explain forms, documents, and educational materials to patients.
  • Communicate effectively with admitting physician offices and nursing units regarding patient admissions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and resolve basic registration and billing issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols.    

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance and registration processes.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and under supervision. 

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • None required.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is beneficial but not required.
