ScionHealth is recruiting for a Senior Vice President, Specialty Hospital Operations – Pacific region to join our team!

Job Summary

The SVP develops and implements divisional strategic plan, vision, goals and objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures and organizational structure for all clinical services, all of which support the organization’s mission and divisional operations.In collaboration with division Quality Councils, defines standards for quality of care by which each hospital, region and corporate levels can be measured.Implements organizational structure and programs that assure compliance with legal, organizational and medical staff guidelines.Assures that the Standard of Nursing Care and Standards of Nursing Practice are maintained and that division clinical operations comply with regulatory and JCAHO requirements.Participates as a senior member of the hospital division executive committee, reporting directly to the division president.Coordinates HD clinical operations interaction with other corporate and division departments.Establishes specific goals and measurement for both clinical quality and financial programs, with working knowledge and understanding of all payor reimbursement practices and Medicare/Medicaid regulations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assesses and manages clinical operations and services provided at all Kindred hospitals, including nursing, dietary, respiratory therapy, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, clinical information systems and education.
  • Sets division standards for quality and assists hospitals, regions and division to achieve goals through development of policies and procedures, training and tracking of outcomes.
  • Functions as the chief nursing officer for the division, acting as a professional leader and influencing practices to encourage hospital development as centers for excellence in their communities.
  • Uses analytical processes to assure balances initiatives for clinical excellence.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of policies and procedures for maintaining compliance with standards of regulatory and accreditation bodies.
  • Collaborates with corporate and interdivisional departments, including Human Resources, Finance, Corporate Compliance, Legal, Liability Claims, Risk Management, Regulatory, Reimbursement and region offices.
  • Understands, prioritizes and recommends specific clinical programs and policies to HD executive committee, particularly in areas of cost and quality of patient care.
  • Coordinates and facilitates implementation of recommendations of HD Quality Councils.
  • Consults with division, region and hospital leadership to correct problems in patient care services identified through internal and external quality assessment.
  • Consults with Human Resources in areas of recruitment and retention of staff in clinical disciplines.
  • Establishes training needs and implements programs for all clinicians (nursing-licensed and non-licensed, therapies, dietary, etc.) utilizing clinically developed policies, procedures and manuals.
  • Refines the Training and Education function of the Clinical Operations Department, based on patient care trends, survey history and hospital/division staff needs.
  • Sets goals and directs HD division directors to achieve quality and financial targets through effective hospital clinical operations.
  • Assesses clinical information needs and directs development and implementation of information systems and/or software to track and report clinical data and information as determined necessary for effective operations and prioritizes such program developments with established target completion dates.
  • Participates in short- and long-term strategic planning and goal setting for the division with senior leadership, including the President, Medical Director and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Personally interact with federal and state agencies on a routine basis as well as at crisis times.
  • Participates in risk management and liability committees to establish priorities that will reduce risk and potential liability issues, through improved products revised policies/procedures and new program development.
  • Establish a presence in national patient care and reimbursement arenas, including CMS, state health departments and national nursing associations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance and Compliance departments to refine and implement HIPAA plan for the division.
  • Incorporates patient care delivery models, clinical outcomes and operational data into a strategic plan for hospital operations.
  • Supports the New Business Implementation group by assessing the infrastructure and support needs of patient care services at newly opened and acquired facilities.
  • Understands and directs Kindred’s response to patient care requirements related to the LTAC Prospective Payment System.
  • Directly and indirectly supervises all Division Clinical Operations management and staff, including the Vice President of Quality and Risk Management, Directors of Pharmacy Services, Clinical Information Services and Quality Outcomes, the Education Specialist and administrative assistants.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in health management, business, nursing, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Ten years of progressive management and executive experience, including within the acute care inpatient setting (inclusive of STAC, LTAC and IRF), and preferably across multi-facility settings.
  • Executive responsibilities for budgeting, financial planning, and management at the system or regional level; demonstrated financial success.
  • Experience leading high quality patient care delivery systems.

  • In-depth understanding of CMS Conditions of Participation, JCAHO Accreditation standards, other regulatory standards and national quality initiatives that impact patient care.
  • Approximate percentage of time required to travel: 50%
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Must demonstrate reliable and regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
